God Said To Go Home

Do I have your attention?
My guess is yes.
But is it the right kind of attention? Do you think that what’s to follow here will likely be intelligent or useful?
My guess is NO.
So you and I agree that attracting attention is one thing. But attracting the right kind of attention is another.
That’s the message a certain fellow in Fort Myers, Florida needs to hear. He’s become so desperate in his job search that, as of last week, he was standing by the side of the road with a sign that reads: “I NEED A JOB!!”
The man, John Howell, said he held his sign for four hours last Tuesday, about four on Wednesday, and said he would spend another four out there on Thursday.
He said he packed it up Wednesday after a woman approached him and gave him some money, which he called “a gift from God.”
“She told me ‘God said to go home.’”
As of this writing, I don’t know if John has attracted a job offer. He certainly has attracted attention, though.
So, what can we learn from this?
1) Are you attracting the right kind of attention in your job search? If not, why not?
2) Mr. Howell is still unemployed, despite being seen by hundreds of people each day that he stands in traffic with his sign. Are you still unemployed, despite being ”seen” by hundreds of employers each day after posting your resume online? If so, what’s the difference between your online resume and a sign by the side of the road? And what could you do to change that?
For 1), you’re on your own.
But I do answer question 2) for you in my free Simple Job Search Manifesto, wherein you’ll learn how to change things by creating a shortlist of employers, then get on their radar with cover letters and resumes that produce job interviews.
