Find a Job on Facebook
By Kevin Donlin | September 23rd, 2008
I just found an incredible case study to help you find a job on Facebook.
If you’ve got a Facebook account (and you should, to take full advantage of using social media to find a job online), this story is for you.
Summary: By targeting specific companies and running ads on Facebook that link to your resume, you can get hot leads in your job search for as little as $10 in ad spending. Ten bucks!
Read these takeaway lessons first, so you’ll know what the whole story is all about:
1. The most successful job seekers in this experiment targeted a single company with a very specific ad that mentioned the company’s name in the text.
2. This method is best suited for targeting larger employers with significant populations of Facebook users.
3. Most people are too lazy to take the initiative to do something like this. Just because the method is now public doesn’t mean that it won’t continue to be effective.
4. Closing the deal is still important. A technique like the one that we have described will start a conversation with employers, but you need to be able to sell yourself in both informal and formal communications to actually land the job. Nobody is going to hire you just because they saw your ad.
(Selling yourself on paper is what I teach in my free Simple Job Search Manifesto.)
