The Second Thing President Obama Should Do To Help The Job Market
By Kevin Donlin | November 6th, 2008
Here’s part 2 of my 3-part series. Part 1 was yesterday.
Action 2: Recognize who really creates jobs
Governments in general and presidents in particular do not create jobs by themselves.
They cannot.
Hoping for a president — or any politician — to create jobs by showering tax money down upon us in the form of public works and other “job creation” projects is like smashing your piggy bank, taking out the money, and using it to buy … another piggy bank.
Why not leave the money where it started — with the people?
Why not trust the people to manage and invest in businesses that grow until they need to employ more workers? That’s how growth works, by definition – from the ground up. Growth cannot be handed down from above.
According to a former executive from the U.S. Small Business Administration:
Over the past 15 years, small businesses created over 93% of all net new jobs. That is almost 22 million new jobs. In fact, during the first four years of this century, large businesses have already shed over 3.6 million jobs. Today, small businesses make up 99.7 percent of all employer firms
You’ll find more about how small businesses create the lion’s share of new jobs here.
As a small business owner, I respectfully ask President-elect Obama and congress to stay out of the way so I can grow my operation to the point that I need to increase staffing — and create jobs.
Please recognize who really creates jobs. It’s America’s people and small business owners. Not America’s politicians.
