Guerrilla Job Search Seminar Benefits The Salvation Army
By Kevin Donlin | December 18th, 2009
Here’s video of me talking about “Instant Networking” at last night’s Guerrilla Job Search Secrets Revealed seminar, to benefit The Salvation Army.
The audio quality is not the best … but fret not!
Below is the script that I refer to in the video. It works. Try it!
1. “Hi! I’m at a training session and they told me to call the most-connected person I know. That’s you!”
Many folks hesitate to make networking calls because they don’t know how to start the conversation. So, use me as your excuse — say that somebody else told you to call. That’s what Ellen and the others did.
Now, look through your phone list. Who is the one person who seems to know almost everybody? That’s the most-connected person you know.
2. “I’m looking for a position as a JOB TITLE at a company like COMPANY #1, COMPANY #2, or COMPANY #3.”
You have to think first, about what JOB you want and at least 3 COMPANIES you want to work for.
3. “Who would you call if you were in my shoes?”
You’re asking the most-connected person you know to think as if they were in your shoes. This produces rapid results.
4. “Could I have their name and number? Thank you!”
Write the name down. Hang up. Call the new person and drop your well-connected friend’s name to start the conversation. Expect to get a job lead!
But we did more than give people a proven way to network faster and easier …
We raised $1,007 for The Salvation Army while helping more than 150 people find jobs faster, by using unconventional, Guerrilla tactics to get hired.
It was such a success all-around that we plan to do this next year — and every year!
Special thanks to ace local recruiter, Paul DeBettignies for dropping by, sharing his expertise, and snapping the above pic, in addition to tweeting during the event.
